The Farm
Our story begins in a small town in Woodlake California. Our family moved here from the San Fernando Valley in 2004. New to the farming community, with zero experience, we jumped right in. With 85 acres of citrus, our family was officially in the farming business now!
With the help of family, friends and the generosity of other farmers, we soon became self-sustainable. The farm was named Flor De Lima, our father came up with this name by combining two very meaningful words together. Flor is short for Florencia, our mothers name, and Lima is a fruit abundantly grown in a small town in Mexico where he grew up as a boy. Together Flor De Lima, translate to citrus flower. Our family farm now provides approximately 80% of all the fruits and vegetables we use to make our cold-pressed juices.
Our Journey
Like many families and small farmers, the recession in 2009 took a deep financial tow on our industry. We found ourselves in imminent financial strains. We took a chance and decided to try to sell our own citrus fruit directly to consumers. Still proud Sunkist growers, we decided to sell a small fraction of our citrus at Certified Farmers’ Markets back in the San Fernando Valley. As soon as we began in 2011, we discovered our customers really enjoyed our citrus fruit. They enjoyed it so much a large number of them began to ask if we could make orange juice for them on the spot. Fresh squeezed orange juice? Immediately our family decided to invest in this idea, and what seemed like over-night, Flor De Lima was also in the juice business now!
Our first brick and mortar location opened in 2014 in the city of San Fernando, Ca. Flor De Lima Farms became the first and only cold-pressed juice bar in town. Today this location is a full juice bar and also serves as our juice production location. We still participate in a handful of Certified Farmers’ Markets in Los Angeles and San Bernardino counties. Our family is extremely fortunate to have great employees and amazing loyal customers, some which have been with us from the very beginning.
